Description
From The Costume of China. Illustrated in forty-eight coloured engravings. Published by William Miller, London, 1805. These monuments were erected to celebrate the 'meritous actions of good men to posterity'. This arch is described as being near the city of Ning-Po (Ningbo), Nov. 17, 1793, and erected in the honour of: 'Tchoung-ga-chung, the most high and learned Doctor of the Empire, and one of the Mandarins of the tribunal of arms'.
